Confed HQ needed the best and decided to recall Colonel Blair to active duty. Soon enough, heinous incidents erupted on the outskirts of the Confederation, and humanity was forced to the brink of civil war. In these times of peace, humans grew fat and complacent. Even Christopher "Maverick" Blair, the famous Confed pilot responsible for ending the war, settled down and became a farmer. As hostilities died out, more trivial concerns like rebuilding what was lost or dealing with space piracy, became the biggest concerns of the Terran Confederation. The year is 2673, four years after the Treaty of Torgo and the end of the Kilrathi War.

In this less spectacular but more practical day, we are left to solve our problems with our own minds and our own will. Upon us is the age of The Fellowship, in which one does not simply wait in anticipation for a heroic savior when a crisis occurs. With the decline on reliability of mages, and with the kingdom turning away from the magical arts, it is doubtful that extreme danger - that which would require an Avatar’s aid to defeat it - will ever return to Britannia. By all indications the age of magic is coming to an end. Whatever interpretation of history proves to be most accurate, it seems undeniable that the Avatar will not return to our fair kingdom. After all, our good sovereign monarch, wise Lord British, has himself displayed an amazing longevity! While saying it is most unlikely, historians do not firmly deny the possibility of there having been only on Avatar. All of the writings insist that the Avatar who negotiated the peace between Britannia and the gargoyles is the one and same person who first appeared to vanquish the sorcerer Mondain those many years ago.

It is most likely that there has been more than one Avatar. In reality, one need look no further than the Isle of the Avatar to see very persuasive evidence that the Avatar did indeed exist - at least as a person if not as a spiritual being! While there are those who maintain that the stories of the Avatar are only myths, practically all credible scholars say that at least some elements of the Avatar’s tales are historical fact. However, most agree when it comes to a number of basic theories. Some argue that as time moves on, the truth of what actually occurred will fade even further away and that we have a responsibility to preserve the legends as we now know them. Some have written that at last it is possible to interpret the tales of the Avatar as they should be, with the proper historical perspective.

It's available on Steam and GOG with widescreen support, easy control rebinding, graphical improvements and a few originally planned but never implemented features thrown in.It has been two centuries since the Avatar last appeared in our good kingdom. Note: Night Dive Studios has remastered the game and called it the "Veteran Edition". With interesting subplot, seamless city environments, and great action / RPG gameplay, Strife is a neglected masterpiece. As member of a rebellion trying to overthrow the evil "Order" who controls all of Earth's technology in a post-apocalyptic future, every conversation choice you select has an impact in the game. Strife takes DOOM into a dynamic world inhabited by not only evil aliens, but by oppressed peasants and citizens, with whom you need to talk and interact as well as fight. This last licensee of id's popular DOOM engine is one of the best first-person action games ever made and among the early successful action / RPG hybrids.
